Cake stands have long been associated with special occasions. But now a days you can use them for practically anything! Cake stands can be traced back to the 17th century, when special guests were served a sugary treat. But advances starting from the 18th and 19th century transformed the cake and the stands. Manufacturers in New England developed pressed glass or when they now call pattern glass when they molded it and mass produced. Thus "Cake Stands" became affordable to everyone. There are many designs,some are rare, milk glass (my favorite), colored glass, some inexpensive and some very expensive. I use them all the time not just for celebrations. They add a flair to the cake, cupcakes or any type of dessert or fruit. Collect them and leave them for display. They are uplifting and fun!
